jChristmas is here: the Lord has come! Part 6

February 2, 2015

Grace to you! Merry Christmas to you all! We can indeed praise the Lord because our Redeemer has come in the flesh to rescue us from sin if we believe and trust in Him! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas week and have a great time with friends and family. Even if your situation is not ideal, remember God loves you enough that He sent His own Son for you! You can take comfort in the fact that your Creator God knows you and your situation and desires to draw you to Himself this Christmas season. Christmas is a yearly reminder of God’s love toward us!

Last week we looked at Galatians 4:4-5. Here it is again: “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)

We looked at what it meant for Jesus to come at the right time and why He had to be born with only an earthly mother but no earthly father. This week we will look at the other amazing factors of these verses that teach us about the true meaning of Christmas.

The verse says Christ was “born under the Law.” What does that mean? It means that Christ had to live under the obligations of the Old Testament law and obey them completely in outward actions and inner desires. This He did so that He could fulfill all the demands of God’s law for us. He lived out the law’s commandments that you and I fail to do. Our failure brings God’s judgment. Jesus’ obedience, if we accept Him as our Savior, gives us credit as if we obeyed them so that we can be accepted by God on judgment day! It’s why the next phrase says “so that He might redeem us who are under the Law.” We all are under the obligation to keep God’s law, but we all fail to do so. Jesus came and obeyed for us so we can avoid God’s wrath!

The final phrase tells God’s goal in all of this: “that we could be adopted as God’s children.” Absolutely amazing! We who are lawbreakers, rebels against God are now invited to become God’s own adopted children because God’s very own Son obeyed for us, fulfilled biblical prophecy, and laid down His life at Calvary so that “we might have life and have it abundantly.” (See John 10:10) Scripture assures us that what Jesus did was good enough to secure our forgiveness of sins and opportunity to have a relationship with God by God raising Christ from the dead. (See Romans 4:25) The resurrection is God’s stamp of approval that all who come to Him He will not turn away, but give them the gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ Himself! God’s gift is waiting for you to open! Today, open you heart and life to Christ and ask Him to be your Savior. Then you can have Christmas from now through eternity!
