December 26, 2008

Breakfast devotion

The deadly danger of ministry

Duet 4: 1-4, 9-12, 24, 26, 29, 33, 34, 39
Duet 11: 26-28
Ezek. 33 – summarize – Faithfulness to the whole counsel/message he knew to deliver! God will require your people’s blood at your hands if you are unfaithful to the Word of God.
Rev. 19:11-16

Ramifications: Your ministry is a ministry of life and death.
1)    This is what it will do
2)    Do you pursue it to this end seeing that it has this dire of consequences? Don’t study just to prepare a message, but as if life and death depended on it.
3)    Warning of False counsel in place of God’s word: lDo you give/recommend your people to counsel that will kill them? Cf. Ps. 1 and Ps 19:17-19…Romans 1 “men/experts who suppress the truth in unrighteousness”
-The faithful under shepherd will counsel/preach to the effect of seeing lives changed and people overcoming in their life. Where are the faithful shepherds who work more in the word than they do in church administration, business, driving around??
Conclusion: 1 Cor. 10:13  /  2 Peter 1:3
-Martyn Lloyd Jones: “if you are having to do a lot of one on one counsel thru the week, you are not doing an adequate job in the pulpit.”
Richard Baxter: “I preach as a dying man to dying people as if never to preach again.”
